About Tom Pixton

I worked in higher education communications for more than thirty years at Harvard Universty and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
During my tenure at MIT as communication specialist (2011-2016), I created and managed a variety of web properties, providing project management, information architecture and user experience strategy, design, and development. I partnered with some of Boston’s finest creative professionals to produce thoughtful, usable, and attractive web sites for MIT.
I designed and built MIT’s graphic identity standards and established many of the rules for use of the MIT logo. I developed a generic flexible web design that was adopted as the default theme for MIT’s Drupal Cloud service. This theme was fully mobile compliant, adhered to the MIT graphic identity standards, and was used to build hundreds of MIT sites. I curated MIT’s community image library, creating and directing photo and video shoots.
As of 2024, I am no longer working in the higher ed web space.
